This week's Budget will undoubtedly be tough with political commentators warning of draconian measures to be taken by the government and by the Minister for Finance in particular. At a time when a tough budget maybe what is called for it is essential that the weak and vulnerable are protected from the extreme measures that are undoubtedly on the way. I just hope that this section of our community will receive the same priority treatment as our banks and financial institutions did last week. It remains to be seen. There is one group in particular that I believe deserve greater financial assistance from the government - our Carers. Despite providing 24 hour a day, 7 day a week, 365 days a year care for our elderly and infirm our Carers continue to struggle to make ends meet. Over to you Minister Lenihan.Monday, October 13, 2008
Lenihan Budget must protect our Carers

It's a tough budget and sadly the chickens are coming home to roost in schools, A&E factories and for OAP's. If Waterford Glass had lent money to dodgy cowboys like the banks did they'd have been in clover by now not on the dole!
Sad day and many more ahead of us I'm afraid.
