Common Sense prevails as Roche extends Vote Register deadline

I am interested to read tonight that the Minister for Environment and Local Government Dick Roche has agreed to extend the deadline for registering to vote. According to the reports from RTE the public will now have until 9 December to submit changes to their entry on the register. This follows an outcry from the public and strong representations from opposition parties following the recent debacle that saw thousands removed from the register of electors. Here in Waterford City more than 3,000 voters were removed from the Register of Electors. I was contacted by many voters who were angry at the radical step taken by Waterford City Council in removing so many names from the register. With the forthcoming general election next year many people are anxious to make sure that they still have their vote.

If you are wondering whether you are still on the Register of Electors you can contact Waterford City Council at 051 309900. You can also check the register of electors here
