Another fine mess !!

The question on everyone's lips this weekend is whether Bertie will survive after next Tuesday. Events over the last few days have once again raised the whole area of accountability and transparency in government. Today's Irish Examiner talks about "Crisis, contradiction and confusion" and really that has summed up this mess. Was it a gift or was it a loan? Did he speak at a dinner in Manchester or did he not speak at the dinner? One thing is clear and that is that this government is damaged beyond repair in my opinion. The decision by the government to curb debate on the issue in the Dail has only succeeded in raising suspicions even further. According to the Irish Examiner opposition parties will only be able to make a short statement on the issue with no opportunity to question the Taoiseach.

In a statement today Labour Party Leader Pat Rabbitte referred to the "Refusal to change arrangements for debate on payments to Taoiseach a FF put down of PDs" It remains to be seen whether the PD's will put up with this put down!!
